Today could be a massive-amount-of-hot-tea type of day. Sitting at my desk with the windows on each side of the computer screen open to let in the fresh of the new day, I can see that fall, in spite of the recent hot days, is definitely here. The large trees outside the windows move with the wind creating a gentle whooshing with their yellowing leaves. Their back and forth movement is mesmerizing and I could stare outside for a long time as if watching a fire dance inside the fire place.
The joyful songs of birds singing in the spring and summer have given way to gentle chirps as this part of the world gets ready for a slower season. The trees undress their dry leaves creating a carpet of colors underneath my feet. I don’t walk straight when walking outside, but direct my steps to step on crunchy leaves here and there. Joy!
I’ve been busy this morning editing my book. I admit that I’m often surprised at the words I have written and how encouraging they are to me. Yet at the same time, how could they not since they are a reflection, albeit small, of the work God has done in my life? Then it’s not my words that surprise me, but His influence in my heart and mind.
The noise outside intensifies as the day progresses. Cars and people pass by, dogs bark, neighbors mow their lawns, airplanes pass up above, and the trains go back and forth. And at the same time there’s the sound of the wind brushing the leaves on the trees, the soft chirping of birds, the keys on my keyboard as I write, and the beauty of a new day. Yes, today could be a massive-amount-of-hot-tea type of day.
